Indians open the weekend with a 2-1 win over Thunder Bay

The Indians opened 2020 on a positive note doubling up on Thunder Bay 2-1.  In the first period both teams were feeling each other out and getting back in game shape after the Christmas break, however in the second Grant Wickham broke in alone on the Kings netminder to open the scoring on a nice set up by Chase Tallaire and PJ Donnelly.  Thunder Bay responded midway through the period to knot the game up on a rebound to send both teams to the dressing room tied at 1 through two periods.  In the third period Kyle Portlock picked up the puck at center ice, then cut to the middle in the Kings zone firing a shot over their netminder for what would be the game winning goal.  Logan Raffaele turned away 37 shots playing outstanding to take the win in net 2-1.

The Indians will face the Kings tomorrow morning 930am at the Taffy Abel arena, then take on Honeybaked Saturday night 430 at the Pullar, then a rematch with Honeybaked Sunday morning 10am at LSSU.

Indians drop two to Fox Motors on the Weekend

Friday nights opening game of the series turned out to be a high paced up and down game for both teams, and both goaltenders were up to the task turning away many grade a chances.  Midway through the second period Fox Motors player got a rebound of the boards and found himself in front alone scoring on his opportunity.  Down by one going into the third period the Indians pressed hard for the tying goal however with the goalie out for the extra attacker Fox was able to control the puck and scored on the empty net to solidify the 2-0 win.  Logan Raffaele played outstanding in net for the Indians.

Saturday morning in the rematch Fox got on the board first early in the period on a breakaway, the Indians answered right back on a goal by Kevin Bostwick set up by PJ Donnelly and Max Povorozniuk.  Both teams played even throughout the second period, in the third Fox added two goals for the lead, but again the Indians fought back within one goal when Nick Castillo scored from Max Povorozniouk.  With time ticking down and the net empty Fox was able to score for the 4-2 win.  Gabe Rosek turned away 28 shots for the Indians.

The Indians will take a break for the Christmas holidays and return to action January 4,5 and 6 when the Thunder Bay Kings and Honeybaked will both be in town for 4 games over the weekend.

Tallaire nets two to lead the Indians over Little Caesars

Sunday morning the Indians opened the scoring first again on a power play goal by Jaden Martin, set up by Kobie Guidebeck and Nick Castillo, but again Little Caesars responded right back one minute later to even the score.  With 6 minutes remaining in the first period Tommy Cahill scored on a nice three way passfrom Jack Swan and Kevin Smith to regain the lead which they held through the end of the period.  In the second period Chase Tallaire took a pass from Castillo and Grant Wickham to go in wide beating the defenseman and then their goaltender to put the Indians up by two.  Midway through the second period the Indians got caught sleeping and Little Caesars scored two goals to even the game up at 3 a piece.  In the third the Indians refocused and got back to work when Nick Castillo scored on the power play, his third point of the night, set up by PJ Donnelly and Jack Swan and with three minutes remaining Tallaire followed a drive to the net picking up the rebound and putting it over the sprawling goalie of Little Caesars for his second of the night.  The Indians closed out the rest of the game to preserve the 5-3 win.  Gabe Rosek turned away 28 shots to earn the win in net.

The next action for the Indians will be next Friday at 5pm, then again Saturday morning at 10am when they will take on Fox Motors from Grand Rapids.  Both games will be played at the Pullar Staduim.

Indians and Little Caesars skate to a 2 all tie

Back on the ice after a week off the Indians matched up against Little Caesars at the Taffy Abel arena.  In the first the Indians opened the scoring when Grant Wickham beat their netminder from the slot, set up by Kevin Bostwick and Chase Tallaire.  Caesars battled back to even the score early in second period, however Tommy Cahill scored on a quick break up the wing on passes from Kobie Guidebeck and Kevin Smith to regain the lead, 30 seconds later Caesars knotted it up again.  The third period proved to be a period of chances for both teams but no one could score leaving the game tied at 2.  Logan Raffaele stood tall in the Indians net earning the tie turning away 28 shots.

Both teams return to action 10am at the Taffy Abel on Sunday morning.

Meijer AAA bounces back for a split on the weekend

Sunday morning Meijer came out early determined to earn a split on the weekend over the Indians offensively pressing the Indians.  In the opening period Meijer tallied twice for the lead, in the second the Indians settled down to play them even, but short players due to injury Meijer took advantage of the Indians scoring three more in the third period for a 5-0 win.  Gabe Rosek turned away 45 shots in the game in a losing effort.

The Indians will have the upcoming weekend off to heal up and return to the ice on December 14 and 15th when Little Caesars comes to town.
