Indians top the Kalkaska Rhino's 10-2

In a Wednesday evening game against the Kalkaska Rhino's of the USPHL the Indians came out victorious 10-2.  Brendan Miller opened the scoring from Brenden MacLaren for an early lead, then Aaron Shahin added to the lead from Nick Skaluba and Miller for the second goal of the evening.  Kalaska got on the board late in the period to cut the lead to 2-1 before the teams went the dressing after the first period.  In a wide open second period the Indians scored 5 goals, first Anthony Harris scored on an unassisted goal, then Jake Smith hit the top corner from Tiger Weber and Zach Lasley, Ethan St.Germain found a lose puck in front of the Rhino's net and buried for the third goal of the period.  Then Kalvin Hillock lit the lamp on a bar down shot from the slot assisted by Skaluba, the final goal of the period was scored by Maclaren when he stole the puck from the Rhino defenseman and buried a nice shot past their goaltender.  The Rhino's added one goal during the period and the teams went to the dressing room after two with Indians up 7-2.  In the third the Indians added three unanswered goals from Skaluba, assisted by Hillock and Weber, then Spencer DenBeste added his first from MacLaren and St.Germain and his second of the game from Weber.  Shaun Brown took the win in net for the Indians.
The Indians are off this weekend and will return to action the following weekend when they travel to Green Bay to take on the Gamblers.

Indians lose a heartbreaker in overtime of the Big Nickel Championship game 

In the Championship game of the Big Nickel Tournament the Indians battled to tie the game with 3.3 seconds remaining in the third period and forced overtime, however with 19.8 seconds remaining in the first overtime the Toronto Nationals scored the winner to take the tournament.  It was a great weekend for the Indians winning 5 games, losing two in overtime in 4 days.  More information concerning the game will be posted when the information comes available.
The Indians will now return home to face the Kalkaska Rhino's of the USPHL on Wednesday night November 11th, 7pm at the Taffey Abel Arena

Indians top Sudbury 3-1 in the semi-final game

In the semi-final game Sudbury opened the scoring in the first period and carried the lead into the second until Spencer DenBeste broke the ice from Ethan St.Germain, then with 1:42 remaining in the second Zach Ahola scored what would be the winning goal from Jonathon Bostwick and Brendan Miller.  Both teams played even through the third until Bostwick scored with 20 seconds remaining to seal the win from Ahola.  Will Hartwick took the win in net.
The Indians now advance to the Championship game of the Big Nicket Tournament at 3:30 today.

The Soo Indians will face off against Sudbury tomorrow at 11am in the Semi final game of the Big Nickel Tournament

Indians win over the Toronto Redwings 6-0

In the quarter final game the Indians continued their winning ways with a 6-0 win over the Toronto Redwings to advance.  Brenden MacLaren opened the scoring in the first period from Spencer DenBeste and Ethan St.Germain, Brendan Miller followed up with a goal from Zach Ahola to go up 2-0 in first period.  Drew Goupille scored the first goal of the second period on a power play from Anthony Harris and Jonathon Bostwick and with 1 minute remaining in second period St.Germain scored from DenBeste and MacLaren to send the teams into the dressing room with the Indians up 4-0.  Zach Ahola got on the board in the third period from Harris and with less than a minute remaining Tommy Holowchuk scored on a power play from Jake Smith for the 6-0 win.  Will Hartwik recorded his third shut out of the tournament and the Indians now advance to the semi final game tomorrow morning wth the team to be determined.
