Indians recap for Fox and Honeybaked weekends

9/24/2022 the Indians traveled to Grand Rapids to take on Fox Motors in MAHA action.  Saturday Fox jumped out to the early lead until Caden McDonald scored from Sabre Kolober and Dominick Cicco to even the score.  Fox answered back to regain the lead 2-1 head into the second period, less the two minutes into the second Lucca Weinkauf scored from Brayden Grange and Daniel Ripstein.  Fox scored three quick goals midway through the second before Gabe Fisher scored from Kolober and McDonald sending the teams into the third period with Fox up 5-3 and in the third Fox added two more goals to secure the win.

On Sunday it was the Indians to take the initial lead on a powerplay goal by Caden McDonald from Lucca Weinkauf and Gabe Fisher, late in the first period Fox got one of their own for a 1-1 tie at the end of the first period.  Early in the second McDonald score his second of the game from Weinkauf to regain the lead, then Weinkauf added a goal assisted by Aedan Haapala, before Fox Motors scored two goals to even the score at 3 all heading into the third period.  In the third Fox scored three unanswered goals for the 6-3 win.

This weekend at home the Indians faced Honeybaked.  Saturday Honeybaked jumped out to lead late in the first period until Sabre Kolober tipped a shot from Gabe Fisher, assisted also by Caden McDonald.  Late in the second Honeybaked found the back of the net to go up 2-1.  In the third the Indians pressed hard missing on several grade A opportunities but failed to score.  Cam Labadie had the duties in net.

Sunday was a tight fought game in which neither team managed to score through the first two periods and with 1 minute remaining Honeybaked capitalized on an opportunity to win the game 1-0.  Cam Labadie played excellent in the pipes.

Next action for the Indians will be rematch with Honeybaked in Detriot on Friday night, then they will continue on to Cleveland Ohio to play the Cleveland Barons on Saturday and Sunday.

Indians split with the Oakland Jr Grizzilies

Saturday the Indians met up with the Oakland Jr Grizzilies in their second meeting of the season.  Oakland struck early in the first period to take the lead, but midway through the first period Sabre Koleber scored on passes from Caden McDonald and Gabe Fisher to even the score through the first period.  The Grizzilies scored early in the second period again to regain the lead, however the Indians battled back when Lucca Weinkauf scored on a powerplay from Kyle Stevens and Koleber to even things up again.  In the third neither team could capitalize sending the game into overtime.  In the 4 on 4 five minute overtime Drew Dellies took a pass from Ethan Chambers and beat the Oakland netminder for the game winning goal for the Indians.  Justin Bamberger played excellent in the net earning the win.

On Sunday morning battled through the first period with neither team scoring, in the second the Grizzilies got on the board for the one goal lead which they preserved and then secured the win scoring on an empty net to secure the win.  Cam Labadie played outstanding in the net for the Indians.

Next action for the Indians win be on the road in Grand Rapids where they will take on Fox Motors at the Southside Arena, Saturday at 620 and Sunday morning at 9am.

Indians return home to take on the Oakland Jr. Grizzilies

After dropping three games in the Tier 1 showcase on the opening weekend to Oakland, Little Caesars and the Chicago Mission, the Indians look to rebound in a rematch against the Oakland Jr. Grizzilies at the Taffy Abel Arena.  Game times are 5pm Saturday and 10am Sunday.

Indians drop a pair of games against Green Bay to open the season

Saturday the Indians opened the season against the Green Bay Bobcats at the Taffy Abel Arena.  Both teams started slow trying feel each other out in the first period with neither team scoring, however in the second Green Bay found their stride scoring three unanswered goals in the second period to take the lead.  In the third the Indians got some offense going when Ethan Chambers beat their netminder on the powerplay set up by Sabre Koleber and Drew Dellies, then late in the third Evan Hogland scored on a breakaway from Scott Vanderhoff to get the Indians with in 1 goal.  Unfortunately Green Bay capitalized on a bad bounce and on the empty net to solidify the 4-2 win.  Justin Bamberger had the duties between the pipes for the Indians.

 

Sunday Green Bay opened up a two goal lead in the first period then added another midway through the second before Evan Hogland scored from Sabre Koleber.  Drew Dellies scored on the power play from Cael Bolton, then Scott Vanderhoff stole the puck while on a penalty kill then beat the Green Bay goalie to even the score a 3 a piece.  Green Bay came back on a power play late in the third scoring the eventual game winner with a final score of 4-3.  Cam Labadie was in net for the Indians.

 

Next action will be next weekend in Troy Michigan for the Tier 1 showcase where they will face the Oakland Jr Grizzilies, Little Caesars, and the Chicago Mission.

Soo Indians AAA Game Times for the weekend

The Indians will open their season at 5pm Saturday against Green Bay then 10am Sunday morning.   Both games will be played at the Taffy Abel arena on the campus of LSSU.
