Hayes nets two to top the Madison Capitals 4-3

The second game of the NAPHL Dixon Cup matched the Indians against the Madison Capitals, Madison struck early in the first period for the 1-0 lead.  Late in the first period Nick Castillo found a rebound to even the score, assisted by Cooper Smyl and Colton Hayes, then Hayes stole the puck and went in on a breakaway to beat the Capitals netminder for the 2-1 lead.  The second period saw Madison roar back to take a 3-2 lead before Nolan Dresch made an end to end rush scoring to even the score at 3 a piece, Domenick Evtimov had the only assist on the goal.  Both teams battled back and forth until late in the third when Hayes took a pass from Chase Tallaire and Cooper Smyl with 33 seconds remaining beating the defense and scoring to solidify the win for the Indians.  Gabe Rosek took the win in net.
The Indians will face the Wenatchee Wolve at 215  Saturday at the Troy Sports Plex.

Indians top Sioux Falls Power 4-3 in overtime

In the opening game of the NAPHL Dixon Cup playoffs the Indians came away with a 4-3 win in overtime.  The Power opened the scoring midway through the first period, then added another 8 minutes into the second for the 2-0 lead.  At 8:49 Colton Hayes broke in on the left wing and beat the to goalie high to get within 1, then early in the third on a power play he again put it past their netminder to even the score, assist went to Domenick Evtimov and Nick Castillo.  Sioux Falls fought back scoring on a power play of their own 3 minutes into the third, but with the net empty Warner Young found Chase Tallaire on side of the net who set up Cooper Smyl for the tying goal with 33 seconds remaining to send the teams to overtime.  In the 4 minute 3 on 3 overtime Cody Carlson set up Tallaire in front of the net for overtime winner.  Dakota Meyer took the win in net.
The Indians will face the Madison Capitals next at 6:15, Troy Sports Plex.

Indians battle Lake Forest Prep Academy

This weekend the Indians took on the highly ranked Lake Forest Prep Academy from Chicago IL.  Saturday night LFA scored late in the first period to take the lead and held it until late in third when Cody Carlson scored on scramble in front of the net from Luke Parry and Chase Tallaire to even the score.  With the scored tied at the end of regulation both teams opted for a 3 on 3 overtime for 5 minutes to see if a winner could be determined and with 1:39 remaining LFA capitalized on a turn over to take the win.  Dakota Meyer played excellent in net.
Sundays game was much different as LFA scored in first period, added two more in the second and third for the 5-0 win and Indians couldn’t generate any offense.  Dakota Meyer stopped 30 shots in a loosing effort.  
The Indians will get back to work this week and travel to Detroit Thursday to participate in the NAPHL Playoffs.

Tallaire nets three and Evtimov two as the Indians roll over the Soo Tornado U18

Thursday night the Indians met up with the Soo Tornado’s U18 team from Sault Ontario.  The scoring starting early when Cody Carlson broke in on the left wing and fired a shot over the goaltenders shoulder, Luke Parry and Warner Young assisted on the marker.  Late in the first period the Indians got two goals, first Parry scored from Carlson and Tallaire, then with 21 seconds remaining Tallaire scored from Parry for the 3-0 lead at the end of the period.  The second period saw both teams get one goal as Tallaire scored his second of the night from Nolan Dresch and Carlson.  The third period saw the Indians score four unanswered goals, Domenick Evtimov scored on a shot from the point assisted by Andrew Schwartz, Adam Brzezicki took a pass from Hayden Daca beating both defense and scoring over the shoulder of the goalie.  Tallaire finished his scoring with his third of the night and “hat trick”, set up by Cooper Smyl and Colton Hayes, and with a minute left Evtimov scored his second of the night from Hayes to finish out the scoring and final score of 8-1.  Gabe Rosek had the duties in net taking the win.
The Indians will return to action February 9th 6pm and 10th 10am at the Taffy Abel Arena when they take on Lake Forest Prep Academy.

Indians go one win 2 losses and 2 ties at the STX Shoot out at Notre Dame

This weekend the Indians participated in the STX Shoot out in South Bend Indiana on the campus of Notre Dame.  The opening game pitted the Indians against the Indiana Jr Fuel, Indiana opened the scoring in the first period before Chase Tallaire scored on pass from Cody Carlson to even the score.  Indiana scored again in the second period to regain the lead then added an empty net goal for the win.  The Indians out shot the Fuel 30-14, but fell 3-1 in the opening game, Dakota Meyer was in the net.
The second game the Indians faced the Northstar Christian Academy from Alexandria Minnesota, this game turned out to be a goaltending duel with neither scoring and the game ended in a 0-0 score and a tie.  Gabe Rosek recorded the shutout to secure the tie.
The Indians first game on Saturday morning was against the International Hockey Academy from Calgary Alberta, In this game the Indians let them out to two goal lead before Cooper Smyl brought the Indians back within one, assists going to Joe Moses and Hayden Daca.  The Academy score their third of the game for another two goal lead before the Indians fought back, first Chase Tallaire scored on a pass from Cody Carlson, then Nolan Dresch knotted the score on a shot from the point from Luke Parry and Carlson.  This game ended in another tie, Dakota Meyer was between the pipes in this game.
The fourth game of the weekend saw the Indians take on the South Florida’s Hockey Academy, this was a very tight game that saw Florida jump out to the lead again early in the first period then Chase Tallaire evened the score from Cody Carlson to send the teams to the dressing room tied at the end of the first period.  In the second Florida scored three goals before Carlson scored from Luke Parry.  In the third Cooper Smyl got on the board from Nick Castillo and Warner Young, however that was all they could muster and fell 4-3.  Gabe Rosek had the goaltending duties in this game.
The final game Sunday morning was against the Calgary Edge from Alberta,  in this game the Indians opened the scoring when Andrew Schwartz lit the lamp from Domenick Evtimov and Nolan Dresch.  Cody Carlson added to the lead on pass from Luke Parry for a two goal lead.  In the second Nick Castillo scored on a pass from Colton Hayes and in the third Warner Young got the fourth goal set up by Joe Moses and Nolan Dresch.  Dakota Meyer earned 4-0 shut out for the Indians.
The Indians return home to take on their cross border rivals the Soo Thunderbirds AAA team Thursday night 7pm at the Taffy Abel Arena.
