Indians drop two to Compuware

The Indians opened at home Saturday facing the Compuware Ambassadors, Compuware opened the scoring late in the first period, before Colton Hayes evened the score a minute later assisted by Trevor Prince for the Indians.  Compuware added another goal to go ahead again before the end of the first period and added two more unanswered goals in the second period and three in the third before the Indians mounted a comeback.  Trevor Prince started the scoring from Colton Hayes, then Isaac Ellingson scored unassisted, and finally Cooper Smyl netted goal to get the score to 7-4 for Compuware.  The Indians couldn’t muster any more goals ending for a 7-4 loss.  Dakota Meyer took the loss in net.

Sunday mornings rematch saw both teams play even through the first period before Compuware scored late in the second period for the lead.  In the third they added two more for a 3-0 lead and the win.  Gabe Rosek was in net stopping 30 shots in a losing effort.

The Indians will be back in action next weekend when the travel to Thunder Bay Ontario to take on the Kings.

Indians open the season going 1 win, 2 ties, and a loss at the Motor City Cup

The Indians opened the season with a 1-0 win over Team Ohio on Friday night, Saturday mornings game pitted them against the Junior Fuel.  The Fuel opened the score early and added another late in the period to take a 2-0 lead before the Colton Hayes broke the ice, from Haydan Daca and Chase Tallaire to get back within one goal.  Late in the second Tallaire added a goal of his own from Adam Brzezicki and Griffin Hernalsteen to tie the game, which ended 2-2.  Gabe Rosek played excellent in the net for the Indians.  The second game on Saturday was against the Indiana Prospects and this time Luke Parry got the tribe on the board first midway through the period assisted by Griffin Hernalsteen.  The Indians held the lead until late in the final period when Indiana scored to even it up.  Dakota Meyer stood tall in the net to preserve a 1-1 score.  The final game of the Motor City Cup was against the MDHL White team and the Indians got caught early in the game allowing them to score 3 goals.  From that point on the teams played even, but the Indians couldn’t scored dropping the game 3-0.  Gabe Rosek was in net for the Indians.

The Indians return home and have a weekend off before the Compuware Ambassadors come to town on September 22 at 6pm and Sunday the 23rd at 10am.  Both games will be played at the Taffy Abel Arena on the Campus of LSSU.

Indians top Team Ohio 1-0

The Soo Indians opened their season in Detroit at the Motor City Cup with a 1-0 win over Team Ohio.  Trevor Prince scored the first goal of the season on a set up by Colton Hayes in the first period, which turned out to be the game winner also.  Both teams played even through the second period, Dakota Meyer shut the door in net to earn the shut out and win.  The Indians will return to action tomorrow at 1240 to face the Indiana Prospects in the second game of the season.

Season begins Sunday August 26th

The 2018-19 season will officially begin on Sunday August 26th at the Taffy Abel Arena on the campus of LSSU.  Players, families, and billet families will all meet to get to know each other at 2pm Sunday, this will be a meeting for everyone to get to know each other, coaches and staff, along with go over team rules and schedule.  Player will then receive equipment for the upcoming season and meet with Coach Tallaire.

Soo Indians are Seeking Host Families for 2018-19 Season

The Soo Indians are seeking billet families for the upcoming 2018-19 season. Your family will have the opportunity to host a player(s) recruited for this year’s team.

A sound and stable billet family is a key success to our program. Part of our commitment to our players and their parents is to help provide them with a good home. Our players range in age from 15-18 and will be training daily on and off the ice as they pursue their goal of playing collegiate hockey.  While the family will receive some financial compensation, the ultimate reward is developing relationships that often carry on for many years well after the player has left the team.

When a family agrees to host a member of the team, they are required to provide room and board for the player. He will need a bed, closet space and a desk or table and chair. While players are expected to provide bed and bath linens, personal care items, mobile phones and media equipment, they also need to take care of their own transportation needs (many have their own car but it is possible the player may need a ride, we encourage them to partner with teammates for get to functions).  The family also needs to make food available throughout the day while the player is at your home. This includes a basic breakfast, deli meats/leftovers at lunch and an evening meal. While on the road, however, players will take care of their own food expenses.

What is expected of the player? He must adhere to all team and house rules and show respect and consideration toward all family members. This includes cleaning up after himself and keeping his room tidy. We expect the host family to uphold and enforce these team rules while all billet rules must be communicated to the player when he arrives.

How long is a host family’s commitment? This varies depending on the player; some are with the family during the hockey season only while others will need to complete the school year. Some players go home for the weekend as often as the game schedule permits. All players go home over the holiday break. Families will receive a monthly billeting payment for each player.
