Indians double up on the Amherst Knights 2-1

Saturday morning the Indians took on the Amherst Knights from the East Coast, early in the first period Luke Parry scored unassisted on a power play to take the lead.  In the second Griffen Hernalsteen joined the rush taking a nice pass from Parry and buried over the Knights goaltender for a 2-0 lead.  The Indians held the two goal lead until midway through the third period when Amherst scored on a power play to cut the lead to one.  From that point on Dakota Meyer closed the door to preserve the 2-1 win.

The Indians now will take on the Northern Cyclones 630 pm at the Novi Ice arena.

Indians fall twice on the opening day of the Compuware Invitational

Fridays opening game pitted the Indians against Team Ohio, from the beginning it was physical game up and down the ice with neither team being able score in the first two periods.  In the third Team Ohio scored on power play midway through the period to take the lead, the Indians pressed back but couldn’t buy a goal and with 30 seconds remaining and the net empty Team Ohio solidified the win with a goal for the 2-0 win.  Dakota Meyer played outstanding in the net for the Indians.

Fridays second game was against Southern Florida  Academy, early on the Indians got caught and Florida jumped out to a 3-0 lead before we got going.  In the second the teams played even, but in the third the Indians finally broke the ice when Nicholas Castillo scored on a pass from Cooper Smyl and Chase Tallaire.  Southern Florida scored on power plays to regain the 3 goal lead, then Castillo scored his second of the from Luke Parry to get back within two, then with 30 seconds remaining Parry scored short handed from Griffen Hernalsteen and Nolan Dresch to get within 1, but time ran out ending with the score of 4-3 for Florida.  Dakota Meyer had another excellent game between the pipes for the Indians.

The next game with be 1120 Saturday against the Amherst Knights at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena.

Indians alumni Denver Pierce and Brendan MacLaren named captains of their teams

Soo Indians alumni Denver Pierce has been named the Captain of the Northern Michigan Wildcats of the WCHA.  In two seasons with the Indians Denver scored 25 goals and 30 assists before moving on to the NAHL.  Known as a tough hard nose forward Denver has shown to be a big game player always working hard and has been excellent team leader throughout his career.

Indians Alumni Brendan MacLaren was recently named the Captain of the Janesville Jet of the NAHL.  During his years with the Indians Brendan was known for his scoring talent, in 173 games he scored 70 goals and 71 assist for 141 total point during his Midget Major career.  Brendan was tendered by the Janesville Jets where has continued to pursue his hockey dreams, He is committed to Ferris State University for the 2019-20 season.

The Indians Staff wish both players the best of luck in the upcoming season.

Indians and Kings skate to a 4-4 Tie

Sunday’s rematch was an up and down evenly played match, The Kings jumped out the early lead in first period before Colton Hayes scored to even it up from Trevor Prince and Nolan Dresch.  Thunder Bay regained the lead at the end of the first period, the Indians then mounted a charge when Prince scored set up by Hayes and Adam Brzezecki, then Warner Young scored from the slot on a pass from Hayes and Chase Tallaire to take a 3-2 lead midway through the second period.  Thunder Bay didn’t lay down and scored two unanswered goals for a 4-3 lead through two periods.  The third period was back and forth and with the goalie pulled Nicholas Castillo scored with 5.9 seconds remaining to even the game from Andrew Schwartz and Cooper Smyl for the 4-4 tie.  Dakota Meyer was in net for the Indians.

The Indians travel to Detroit next weekend for the Compuware/Honeybaked Tournament.

Indians fall in the first game in Thunder Bay

The Indians dropped the first game in Thunder Bay 3-1, they opened strong pressing the Kings netminder early, however the Kings would draw first blood late in the first period.  In the second period they added two more to jump out to a 3-0 before Colton Hayes scored from Chase Tallaire and Hayden Daca to get back with 2.  The remainder of the second and third period saw both teams traded excellent scoring opportunities but neither team could add to the score giving the Kings the 3-1 win.  Dakota Meyer was in net for the Indians.  Both teams will return to action tomorrow morning at 10am.
