Fox doubles up on the Indians

Fox Motors took the first game of the weekend 4-2.  Fox opened the scoring in the first period taking the lead, the Indians fought back evening the score when Hayden Daca scored over the shoulder of their netminder on power play, set up by Nicholas Castillo and Luke Parry.  Fox regained the lead again 2-1, before Castillo followed up on the play scoring on a pass from Jovani Moses to send the teams to the dressing tied 2-2 at the end of the second period.  In the third Fox scored to unanswered goals for the 4-2 win.  Gabe Rosek played excellent in the net in a losing effort.

Both teams return to action tomorrow morning 10 am at the Taffy Abel Arena.

Indians nip the Thunderbirds 3-2

In the first meeting of the crossworder match between the Soo Indians AAA and Soo Thunderbirds/Rivercity Sports AAA team the Indians prevailed 3-2 on a late third period goal.  In the first period the Thunderbirds struck first to take the lead, then in the second period Chase Tallaire set up Colton Hayes, with the other assist going to Nicholas Castillo to even up the score.  Then late in the second the Thunderbirds regained the lead which stood through the remainder of the period.  Down by one entering the period the Indians came out with a little more urgency and midway through the period Jovani Moses beat the Thunderbird goalie on a nice shot while breaking in on net tie the game again, assisted went to Andrew Schwartz and Domenick Evtimov.  With one minute remaining Hayes got his second of the night as he streaked down the right side of the ice and beat the defender putting shot over the shoulder of the netminder to secure the win, Trevor Prince and Nolan Dresch had assists on the goal.  Indians netminders Gabe Rosek and Dakota Meyer split the game both allowing just one goal in a winning effort.

The Indians will be back in action Saturday at 3pm, Sunday at 10am, when they take on Fox Motors from Grand Rapids at the Taffy Abel Arena.

Indians drop three in Detriot

This weekend the Indians travelled to Detroit to take on Honeybaked and Oakland Grizzlies in three MAHA Tier 1 games.  Friday matched the Indians against Honeybaked in Hazel Park, Honeybaked opened a 1-0 lead late in the first period on a power play, then added two more in the second period and also the third for a 5-0 win over the Indians.  The Indians pressured to score however were unable to break the ice.  Dakota Meyer played excellent in a losing effort for the Indians.

Saturday afternoon the Indians met up with the highly ranked Oakland Grizzlies in Troy.  Early on nothing went right for the Indians surrendering 5 unanswered goals in the first period, after that the team settled down playing even through out the remainder of the game scoring one of their own in the second by Colton Hayes from Trevor Prince and Nolan Dresch.  

Sunday mornings rematches turned into an old fashion hockey with both teams battling for ice which lead to a scoreless first period.  In the second Oakland managed to score two for the lead and in the third penalties lead to three power play goals for the Grizzlies that lead to the 5-0 win.  Dakota Meyer played outstanding in the net.  

The Indians return home to take on cross border rival the Soo Thunderbirds AAA Tuesday night 7pm at the Taffy Abel Arena, then take on Fox Motors Saturday at 3pm and again Sunday at !0am.

Indians win the Compuware/Honeybaked silver championship

The Championship game of the Compuware/Honeybaked Silver division saw the Indians face off in a rematch with Amherst Knights from New York.  The Indians jumped out early in the first period when Colton Hayes opened the game on a shot from the top of the circle assisted by Griffen Hernalsteen and Trevor Prince.  Four minutes later Adam Brzezicki got on the board assisted by Luke Parry, then Parry added one of his from Hernalsteen to put the Indians up 3-0 midway through the first period.  In the second Amherst scored two goals to get back within one.  The third period saw back and forth action but with 58 seconds remaining Trevor Prince found the open net from Warner Young and Nolan Dresch to solidify the win and the championship.  Dakota Meyer had an outstanding gave in net taking the 4 - 2 win.

The Indians will be back in Detroit next weekend playing Honeybaked Friday night, then traveling to Troy to take on the Oakland Grizzlies Saturday and Sunday morning.

Indians top the Cyclones to advance to the finals at the Compuware Invitational

The Indians squared off against the Northern Cyclones from New Hampshire on Saturday night.  The Indians opened the scoring on the first shift of the game when Nicholas Castillo jumped up in the rush taking a pass from Cooper Smyl and Luke Parry to start the game.  Later in the period Colton Hayes got on the board from Griffen Hernalsteen and Trevor Prince to give the Indians a two goal lead at the end of period.  In the second the Cyclones came back with two goals to knot the score, then Cooper Smyl got a goal of his own from Hernalsteen to regain the lead.  Prince scored on power play on a feed from Warner Young and Nolan Dresch for two goal lead in the third.  The Cyclones did get one back with 47 seconds remaking to get within one, but Dakota Meyer shut the door to earn the win and advance the Indians to the semi finals Sunday morning.

The Indians will now face the Amherst Knights 910 at the USA Arena in Plymouth.
